This is such an interesting comparison between how Apple retires physical product features, like the headphone jack, and the way media has iterated on and shrunk their product over the last decade.
Ultimately, as eerie as it may seem, Apple and news media companies are using the same modus operandi, but in opposite directions: they have been removing some “technologies” from their products before people think they’re ready to give them up. The problem with the latter is that journalism’s scheme is prompting people to actually give it up. All of it.
I think about this a lot in the context of New Years resolutions and that list of things I always want to be doing but never am.
But I really like this simple statement. It makes me think of Michael Pollan's edict on diet, "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."
Most of the world's knowledge is still to be found in books. Reading more often is a way of accessing that knowledge, and will -- inevitably, I think -- make you smarter and better-informed.
Just read more often.

The systemic problems this view highlights are daunting, but we do badly need to move past a world in which we view issues like this as somehow separate from our own participation in and use of platform media.
And that’s it. The wry plot twist, not in the documentary but in real life, is that in this current world, packed with fake villains and ghost stories, now we’re the tree, now we’re the whale. Essentially, now we’re the squirrel.
